Fiber Arts Mixer
April 8, 2017
Event time 1pm to 4pm (space reservation from noon to 5pm)
First Universalist Church (3400 Dupont Ave S)
Purpose: Introduce The Yarn Mission and Million Artist Movement to additional folks by sharing our mission for Black Liberation through art. The event specifically allows folks to see demonstrations of a variety of fiber arts while also learning about their radicalization in the past.
We are seeking justice-oriented demonstrators who are able to volunteer their time, skills, and passions to demonstrate a fiber art they love. Specifically, we are seeking folks who could demonstrate:
Knitting
Crocheting
Weaving
Quilting
Spinning
Needlepoint/embroidery
We are open to additional fiber arts as well. Please email info@theyarnmission.com with your interest. Feel free to share this information with others.
We are welcoming store/business sponsors for this event. Sponsors would be expected to donated $300 for a station which could allow for demonstrators to receive a stipend for their time. They could also donate items for a giveaway and/or for the silent auction (proceeds from which will go into The Yarn Mission’s fund which helps support new artists, the sustainability of the group, and meet survival needs of color artists. In return, we will shout out/distribute advertisting for sponsors on social media, our website, and at the event. Interested folks should email info@theyarnmission.com.
Lastly, if you are an individual (local or distant) who would like to support this event there are multiple ways you can do this.
Monetary donation – paypal.me/theyarnmission/25 A donation of $25 is about the price of a speciality sock yarn and goes a long way! You can donate more or less using paypal.me/theyarnmission as well. (Please include a comment if possible saying that you are supporting this event)
Item donation – we are eagerly accepting speciality yarns, fibers, tools, and/or completed items for a silent auction. Please let us know what monetary value you would assign to the item and care instructions if applicable. It is also really useful if you could include just a 2-3 sentence description/story for the item. (How did you get it or why did you make it? How would you expect someone to use it?)
Help organize. Even if you are distant you can help to promote this event or do behind the scenes organizing. Local folks can do that AND take on a role at the event.
